Another interesting column from Diane Ravitch

Here is another interesting article from Dr. Diane Ravitch. In this one she wrote about the fact that the Secretary of Education, Arne Duncan, will be sending his children to a private school that has none of the mandates Duncan is pushing in public education. Interesting to me that while he says that this is what public schools must do to provide quality education, he is sending his kids to a school that do not require any of it! Definitely worth a read!!

Article about School-wide ban of High Stakes testing in Oklahoma

Even though school is out for the summer, there continues to be a great debate on the use of high-stakes testing with students. One of the leading advocates against over-testing is Dr. Diane Ravitch. Here is a recent column from her blog where she wrote about Oklahoma schools boycotting all non-federal tests! If you are interested in this issue, I definitely encourage you to follow her on twitter (@dianeravitch) and her blog!

I love world sports and the competitive nature of things like the Olympics and the World Cup. I believe that these events inspire youth to be more active and to strive to be good athletes and great people. This article talks a little about the increase in girls’ participation in sports following the Women’s World Cup.
